Skateboarder Survives Being Shot in the Face in Botched Robbery

Police on Tuesday were searching for two men who shot and wounded a 24-year-old skateboarder in a suspected robbery in Long Beach.

Joe Brainard is lucky to have survived the attack, but his family said the bullet hit his jaw and split in two and now his jaw is wired shut.

The attack happened at Third Street and Pacific Avenue on Thursday around 2:30 a.m.

"They said, 'Give me everything you have. He said he didn't have anything,'" said Scott Brainard, his brother.

He was shot when he went to take his flashlight out of his back pocket Scott Brainard says his younger brother ran away and flagged down an officer for help, then texted him.

Scott Brainard said his brother is unable to talk, but he's given him the thumbs up and is in high spirits.

Police say the two men ran away without taking anything. They had their faces covered.
