Small Plane Violates Obama's Airspace Restrictions

NBC4 viewers who heard the fighter jet responding called to report loud "booming noises" and described the sound as "incredible, like a plane about to crash on top of us."

A Cessna 340 violated flight restrictions around Los Angeles Thursday night that are in place during President Barack Obama's visit to the city, but there is no indication it was intentional, Federal Aviation Administration Public Affairs Manager Ian Gregor said.

The flight was reported in the restricted airspace about 5:20 p.m., said NORAD spokesman Lt. Col. Michael Jadzyk.

Jadzyk said the Cessna 340 was out of Bakersfield.

An F-15 fighter jet was sent to identify the plane and as it did, the Cessna's pilot established contact with air traffic controllers and returned to Bakersfield after being told the plane was in restricted airspace, Jadzyk said.
