Thieves Use Sledgehammer to Smash Jewelery Display Case

The suspects used a sledge hammer to smash display cases containing Rolex watches at a jewelry store at the Brea Mall.

Police are looking for a man involved in a "smash and grab" heist in which a sledgehammer was used to shattered a display case at a mall jewelry store in Brea.

Two male subjects entered the Ben Bridge Jewelers inside the Brea Mall around 7:50 p.m. Wednesday, according to police. The men then used a sledgehammer to smash display cases containing Rolex watches and ran from the store.

Surveillance video showed the man swing the sledgehammer several times at the case before running from the store.

Brea Police officers spotted the suspects as they ran and captured one of them after a short foot chase.

Officers have located a bag of watches stolen from the store and a sledgehammer, but it is unknown whether all property has been recovered.
