Stabbing Victim’s Body Found in Anaheim Alley

A report of a burglary turned into a homicide investigation early Thursday after police found the body of a stabbing victim in an Anaheim alley.

Officers responded to the 800 block of North Zyn Street, near Anaheim Boulevard, just after midnight when they received a report of a burglary from an anonymous caller. They found the body of a man with significant stab wounds in the alley, said Anaheim Sgt. Bob Dunn.

The coroner removed the body, that of a man in his 20s or 30s, at about 5:30 a.m. Two vehicles -- a Chrysler 300 and Toyota Avalon -- were towed from the location, but homicide investigators said it was not immediately clear whether the vehicles were connected to the investigation.

"We have some witnesses who were talking to back at the station," Dunn said.

It was not immediately clear whether a burglary actually occurred -- police said they found no evidence of a burglary.

"We need to ascertain how that was perceived by the person who called," said Dunn. "It makes it another aspect of our investigation that we need to go through. It could be that there was a burglary or that they heard something that they thought was a burglary.

The location is a mixed-use area with businesses -- mostly used-car dealerships -- on one side of the alley and apartment buildings on the other.
