Change of Color Can't Stop Cops From Finding Stolen '59 Impala

Tough for luck for owner. He already cashed out the insurance policy.

Authorities have recovered a stolen 1959 Chevrolet Impala despite modifications made to the car, it was reported this week.

Police told the Glendale News Press that the vehicle was recovered from a chop shop in Hawthorne.

Glendale Det. Mauricio Barba of the countywide Taskforce for Regional Auto Theft Prevention told the newspaper that the vehicle was changed from red to green and other modifications were made. Investigators were able to identify the car by using 25 specific characteristics.

The vehicle was stolen on July 17. The owner already received an insurance settlement for the car, so the Impala will be given to State Farm, Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz told the News Press.

Police reports obtained by the newspaper indicate the body-shop owner was arrested as part of the investigation.
