Suspect Wanted for Killing Man, Critically Wounding Other

Victor Manuel Rivas-Garcia is considered armed and dangerous.

Sheriff's deputies Sunday are trying to determine what led to the one man's death and the wounding of another in a shooting in Maywood, authorities said.

The shooting was reported at 6:07 p.m. Saturday on the 6100 block of Palm Avenue, said Deputy Tracy Koerner of the Sheriff's Information Bureau. When deputies arrived, they found the two men with gunshot wounds in the parking area of an apartment complex. One man was pronounced dead at the scene and the other was taken to a hospital in critical condition, Koerner said.

Investigators believe the person responsible for the shootings lived in the same apartment complex. He has tentatively been identified as Victor Manuel Rivas-Garcia, 33, who reportedly fled in a 1991 or 1992 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck with a white bed and a silver or grey cab that has been lowered, deputies said.

He is considered armed and dangerous. Sheriff's officials urged anyone who encounters Rivas to call 911.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to call the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS (8477).
