Mid-July will be a busy time for online consumers as they are bombarded with digital sales events from some of the biggest online retailers competing against marketplace giant Amazon for a piece of the summer and back-to-school profits.

Target is the latest to announce its big summer sale event Target Deal Days, which will occur July 15 and 16, the same time as Amazon Prime Day, the two-day annual sale exclusively offered to Prime subscribers. Target said it is slashing prices and will make its sales available to customers without a membership.

For years, brick-and-mortar retailers have had to think of innovative ways to keep their clients from flocking over to Amazon. Corporations, such as Target, have had to shift their focus to expand their online shopping model and offer competitive prices and shipping options.

With the creation of Prime Day, online retailers have scrambled to offer their own sale extravaganzas, with some 250 online retailers attempting to compete with Amazon this year, TechCrunch reports.

Target Deal Days offers will include "rarely-on-sale" and exclusive home, apparel and toy brands, in addition to discounts on many other items, a press release states. Target said it will release more information about specific sales at a later time.

"Last year's Target.com One-Day Sale was one of our biggest days of the year for online sales," said Mark Tritton, executive vice president and chief merchandising officer of Target. "This year, we're giving guests more discounts across even more of our assortment with two days to save on hundreds of thousands of items and offering the best options in retail for delivery and pick up on their terms, including same-day."

Target is offering delivery options during its summer sale event to compete with Amazon Prime's free two-day shipping. Customers can visit the Target website or app during Target Deal Days to take advantage of same-day delivery and pickup, the press release states. Furthermore, guests who don't want to leave their vehicles and go into the physical store can place a Drive Up order and have their purchased items delivered to the parking lot by a team member.
