Temecula Women's Clinic Damaged in Possible Arson

A Temecula women's clinic was damaged in a possible arson fire Wednesday, though no one was injured.

The blaze was reported at 1 a.m. inside FPA Women's Health at 41715 Winchester Road, near Enterprise Circle. The clinic advertises a range of family planning services, including on- demand abortions, non-surgical abortions, birth control products and various laboratory tests to identify sexually transmitted diseases and the presence of cancer in female patients.

"We were notified about the fire by an alarm company, and by the time our crews reached the location, the fire sprinkler system had extinguished the flames," Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman April Newman told City News Service. "The contents of one room were damaged."

Newman said arson investigators were examining the scene to determine the source of the fire, but there had been no confirmation this afternoon that it was intentional.

A member of a cleanup crew called to the business to remove fire-damaged property stated that it appeared a Molotov cocktail had been hurled into the clinic.

A witness said there have been anti-abortion demonstrations at the site, but all have been peaceful. The facility is located in a strip mall, but no other businesses were impacted by the flames.
