A 9-year Los Angeles Police Department veteran working as a youth service officer was arrested after texting "harmful" material to a minor more than once, the department said Tuesday.
Abel Montes De Oca was arrested on misdemeanor charges Thursday after a 10-month internal investigation. He was sent home immediately after the department became aware of his texts to the minor in Oct. 2015.
Montes De Oca was arrested on suspicion of sending harmful material to a minor, child annoying, and destruction of evidence.
He was being held on $250,000 bail.
The victim was provided support services by the LAPD after the incident.
