Forget keeping up with the Jones. Some savvy seniors are tackling the big challenge of keeping up with their grandkids by learning how to text.
Teachers from Cal State LA and Whittier College came to the Caremore Care Senior Center to up the tech game of some very game seniors, who don't want to be left behind.
Some have hit the send or the OK button before, but they decided to take a class for the nuance lessons. But for some, half the battle was knowing what to push.
"I got a response back. I didn't even know I hit the send button," said Toni Griffin.
Once everyone was able to send a message, the teachers went on to the next layer, showing them how to use symbols, abbreviations, and text speak.
"I learned about 'winkin' and 'blinkin' and things of that nature. Shortcuts," said Glenn Brazeal.
"I received a message with the abbreviation, and I don't understand nothing," said Gladys Gravinni.
Now the generation that perfected the leisurely cocktail conversation has mastered the mystery that was the text.
