The ‘Matzo Balls': Jewish Single Events

Mark the 24th of December for dress-up, dazzle-time fun of the social sort.

While the vibe of the last third of December tends to be, on the whole, a little more laid-back, a little more pajama-oriented, a little bit more stay-close-to-the-fireplace-y, there are vibes to be found that are vivacious and music-strong and full of smiles, socializing, and fancy dress-up opportunities.

Look to the classic and convivial "matzo balls" that turn up the good-times-having on the 24th day of December. Make that the 24th night of the month, actually, for these large-scale Jewish singles spectaculars start a little later and go straight into the wee hours of Dec. 25.

That means you can definitely attend a Hanukkah gathering earlier in the evening and call upon either the MatzoBall or The Ball a few hours laters. (Hanukkah's first night in 2016 is Saturday, Dec. 24.)

MatzoBall, which is marking its 30th annual year, is happening in cities around the country on the 24th, from Miami to Boston to New York. The Los Angeles party is at The Association on 6th Street, and will dance from 9 o'clock through to 2 a.m. Tickets? Find them here.

Or head to Bootsy Bellows in Hollywood for The Ball, which kicks off the revelries at 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 24 (the wrap-up is also at 2 a.m., do note). Your entry into the party? Secure it now.

These are gussy-up gatherings, with people donning some sparkle, glitter, and dash. True, many of us look to late December to catch a breath, but take a few hours out on Dec. 24 for some 'matzo'-marvelous friend-makery of the splashy, high-stylin', make-some-memories sort.
