Spend Nov. 11, 2019 in Joshua Tree National Park or another favorite place. Fees will be waived at over 100 destinations within the parks system.

VETERANS DAY... gives us the important opportunity to thank those who have served, and we do so in many moving ways. We might choose to attend a parade, or find a ceremony, or make our way to a place where the chance to reflect, and sit in peace, prevails. Few places serve that desire as well as a national park, which are places known for quiet valleys, silent canyons, and hikes that inspire deep rumination. If you're seeking a special destination for Monday, Nov. 11, after the parade or ceremony, consider finding your favorite national park. For the fee-charging parks in the system — not every park charges an entrance admission, though several dozen do — will welcome one and all without asking for a cent. Call it a wonderful and profound way to honor our veterans.

MONDAY, NOV. 11... is the 2019 date, and Joshua Tree National Park, Yosemite National Park, and the other California parks with entrance fees will skip the fees and welcome visitors looking to enjoy the space at their own pace or join in on a ranger program. If you'd like to call upon a park that has a military chapter or two to its history, there's a list right here. Fort Point National Historic Park, Cabrillo National Monument, and Rosie the Riveter WWII Home Front National Historic Park are three Golden State spots that are connected to veterans today and of the past.
