Tourists and locals alike are skipping the tour bus in favor of a new high-tech way to see the sights around town: the Segway.

"It gets somebody out from behind the glass on a tour bus where they can really breathe and take in the air," says Kenneth Lippman, owner of Another Side Tours.

The Segway is a contraption that, at first glance, looks like it would never work. But through some high tech magic, the two-wheeled mechanical wonder can hold a person upright and cruise down the streets around 12 miles per hour.

"It really becomes part of your body," Lippman explains. "I think people are amazed we can stroll down Rodeo Drive in style."

Lippman's company specializes in taking guests on up-close, reach-out-and-touch tours of LA's top destinations including Beverly Hills, downtown Los Angeles, the La Brea Tar Pits, and along the beach.

Jean Neuweg decided to give it a try. She escaped the cold winter storms of Iowa to meet her daughter Sarah McDaniel in Los Angeles for some fun.

After a short training session to get her sea legs, she was off and running.

"I was kind of gawking around and hit a bush but kept on moving," Neuweg joked. "But it was amazing."
