The Secret to Big, Beautiful, Bold Lashes!

Everyone wants fuller, thicker, longer lashes. Lash expert Rocio Alexander sat down with California Live to answer all your questions about the newest beauty product: lash extensions.

How do lash extensions work?

Each fake lash adheres to your natural lash individually. The technician takes a fake lash and dips it into the lash glue. The technician then adheres one fake lash to a natural lash. But don't worry the lashes are light weight so they aren't heavy on your eyes.

What are they made of?

The fake lashes are made of synthetic silk. The types of eyelash glue can vary but it is normally acrylate. If you are allergic to anything make sure you ask the technician what glue they use.

What can I do or not do?

When you have lash extensions, you can wear makeup but you can't wear mascara or use an eyelash curler on your lashes. Also, right after you get the lash extensions you can't get your lashes wet for two days after the original application.

How do you care for them?

Clean your lash extensions with a solution and spool. You take the solution, get it wet and foamy, then use the spool to gently apply it on your lashline. Treat the extensions like your own lashes but gentler.

How long do they last?

The lashes last for four to six weeks but need touch ups after two or three weeks.

Are there different types? How much is it?

There are many different options for lash extensions to fit the look you are going for ranging from natural to full glam. Classic natural lashes start at $200 whereas voluminous lashes start at $275.

Will my natural lashes get damaged?

Alexander said your natural lashes should be okay as long as you get your lashes done by a licensed professional.

Are there other options?

If you are allergic to the lash glue or it's out of your price range, there are other options to get fuller lashes. Alexander recommended using eyelash growth serums as a way to naturally grow and thicken your lashes. Alexander also recommended using regular fake eyelashes.
