Things to Do This Week: Disneyland Exhibit Opens

Over 700 items will be on display ahead of the huge Van Eaton Galleries auction.

Free Disneyland Exhibit in Sherman Oaks: Ever wanted to eyeball a Haunted Mansion Doom Buggy when it isn't moving? How about a vintage flying ship from Peter Pan's Flight? Over 700 items from the collection of Richard Kraft, "mega collector and Disneyland enthusiast," will be on view ahead of a huge Van Eaton Galleries auction at the end of August. Where to see such wonders and when? At 13730 Riverside Drive in Sherman Oaks, Wednesdays through Sundays, from Aug. 1 through 24, 2018. A number of special events are popping up, too, around the pop-up That's From Disneyland! display.

BOLD Summer Opens: If you dig sauntering around Beverly Hills on a warm evening, peeking in luxed-out windows, you'll doubly dig this: The annual nighttime event, BOLD Beverly Hills, starts on Thursday, Aug. 2. Shops'll stay open later on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays right through to Aug. 25, and entertainment will pop up along and near Rodeo Drive. And shall there be "special events and restaurant offers" around this shimmery-as-all-get-out area? You bet: That's part of the BOLD beauty: Savings, stuff to see, and sweet summer nights.

Sparrow Mart Opens: You've been to a grocery store before, probably yesterday, maybe an hour ago. For loading up on cereal and such is a part of our daily lives, no doubt about it. But what if all of those market aisles were filled with products you recognized, made out of felt? Artist Lucy Sparrow has created a walk-inside supermarket that contains thousands of felt items, from fruits to snacks to seafood and beyond. It is an eye-popper, and playful, and only open for one month, at The Standard DTLA, from Aug. 1 through 31. It's free, closed Mondays, and you'll want to register ASAP.

Free Croissant, mmm: So you're downtown on Thursday, Aug. 2, and you're hankering for something with luscious layers, something that's a bit buttery, something that can be considered a true treat, through and through. Paris Baguette, "a fast-casual Parisian-inspired bakery," is giving away a free croissant to the first 100 guests to visit on Aug. 2, and a Paris Baguette mug, too. Where to find the shop? Make for 404 W. 8th Street. Start time for all of this croissant-y delish is 9 in the morning.

"The Wizard of Oz" screening: Southern California's cinemas welcome a whole line-up of classic movies each and every year, the kind of films we love to see again on the big screen. This MGM icon, a timeless charmer, makes regular appearances, but the one coming up on Wednesday, Aug. 1 is pretty special: It's on Catalina Island, a place that had an interesting role in the magical movie. What was it? The birds of Catalina were recorded for some of the film's audio. See the famous flick on the quaint island, just a short walk from where that recording took place.
