Taste of Pasadena: Covering two dozen area restaurants in one grand and suppable swath? Probably not possible, on any given night. But if that night is Sept. 13, and you happen to be at the Rose Bowl, you'll be able to try noshable eats from 24 Crown City favorites. Also? The SIP-tember Challenge is winding down, so look for the quartet of cocktails that made it to the finals to be in the house, er, outside the stadium. You can vote, too, on the beverage you like best. The hours are 6 to 9 p.m. and tickets may be found here.
"Beautiful" opens: The label "voice of a generation" gets applied quite a bit, to a number of artists, but singer-songwriter Carole King truly earned the designation, and ran with it, delivering numerous hits that became instantly sing-along-able. The Broadway gem looks back at Ms. King's start, her friendships and collaborations, and, of course, the music. Expect to hear many of the favorites, like "I Feel the Earth Move," and more, at the Hollywood Pantages. Sarah Bockel stars as Carole King.
Art Battle Los Angeles: Facing a blank canvas? Doing so in the privacy of our home is one thing, but painting a complete artwork, from scratch, with an audience watching, and a clock ticking, is another. To see this in action, and to vote for your favorite work of art, one that's been created as you watched, make for Exchange LA on Wednesday, Sept. 12. Can you buy a piece after the event? There's a silent auction, yep. How much is a ticket? Twenty dollars. How much time do artists have to paint? Wow: Participants must finish their paintings in 20 minutes.
Australia Rocks the Pier: The free Twilight on the Pier shows continue with a dazzling salute to some of the future-forward-iest sounds of Down Under. On the slate for Wednesday, Sept. 12? Betty Who is on the main stage, as is Touch Sensitive, while Cxloe will deliver the pop goodness on the west end stage. And at the Pacific Park stage? It's the alternative/indie stylings of Death Bells. As always with this popular series, arriving early is just a really good idea. Everything rocks/grooves/dances from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., oh yeah.
The Dudes' Brewing Company: A grand opening bash, especially one involving a rooftop deck, live music, and the fact that the beach is only a block or so away, should feel mighty convival, and this one will, thanks to an appearance from Unwritten Law and "... over 27 rotating beers on tap + local wines." Just be in Santa Monica on Thursday, Sept. 13, be 21 or older, and be sure to land on a ticket for the celebratory suds scene. Ticket prices begin at ten bucks and end at $45 for the VIP slots. Details are thisaway.
