Swallows Day: The big parade is scheduled for Saturday, March 23, but if you'd like to join the traditional Return of the Swallows celebration at Mission San Juan Capistrano, you'll want to be there on Tuesday, March 19. That's St. Joseph's Day, the legendary occasion when the small birds return to the mission, per hallowed lore. People will gather to watch the skies, listen to mariachis, enjoy dance performances, and to send off winter (spring begins the following day). There's a fee to enter the grounds, so read all, then wing your way for SJC.

BREATHEWATCHLISTENTOUCH: The Work and Music of Yoko Ono: It's a "concert-length celebration of her 60-year-plus career," one that will include not just a fittingly epic venue (Walt Disney Concert Hall) but a superstar-filled roster of artists. Shirley Mansion, St. Vincent, La Marisoul, and other visionary music-makers will take the stage to pay tribute. Girlschool LA is the co-presenter of this big night, one that contains mature content. Ready to take a seat for an expansive journey as led by a multitude of cool creators? Begin here. March 22

"Cruel Intentions" at 20: A huge cast full of young superstars? A movie about devious plot turns and relationship-based twists? A flick that has gone on to enter the pantheon of teen movies, the one that boasts all of the works that have weathered the years to remain a watch-again favorite? That's this decadent treat. The film, which stars Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Philippe, Selma Hayek, Reese Witherspoon, and several other top-notch actors returns to theaters, for one week only, starting on Friday, March 22.

Free Cone Day: How do you know it is the first day of springtime? Well, your calendar can tell you that, or an astronomy-loving buddy, or the fact that a lot of people may be walking around with small vanilla cones from Dairy Queen. For Wednesday, March 20 is Free Cone Day, meaning you can order this classic confection at your local DQ and enjoy it in honor of the new season. Note that mall DQs will not be participating. Need more info? For sure: It's right here.

First Day of Spring: We know that the petal-prettiest season is starting, but what do we know about the equinox and the science behind the day? Two free talks'll clue cosmos-loving earthlings into what's behind the vernal equinox, at the Griffith Observatory. The times? Local noon (which is later than the noon we know) and sunset, at the Gottlieb Transit Corridor and West Terrace, respectively. Happy spring, happy science, happy springtime, happy saving-money-while-learning, equinox aficionados.
