Swallows Day: The big parade is scheduled for Saturday, March 23, but if you'd like to join the traditional Return of the Swallows celebration at Mission San Juan Capistrano, you'll want to be there on Tuesday, March 19. That's St. Joseph's Day, the legendary occasion when the small birds return to the mission, per hallowed lore. People will gather to watch the skies, listen to mariachis, enjoy dance performances, and to send off winter (spring begins the following day).
