Authorities Monday were seeking public help to find a person of interest in their investigation into the abandonment of a toddler in a men's restroom at a Walmart in Lakewood.

The baby boy, who was in good health, was found by a customer about 11:45 a.m. Oct. 8 at the business in the 2700 block of East Carson Street, the sheriff's department reported. The baby was found clothed, and on the floor in a locked stall taht officials said had been under repair, officials said.

The boy was described as black, between 12-15 months old, weighing 20 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

The boy's parents and/or guardians have yet to be identified and nobody has reported the child missing, sheriff's officials said.

Surveillance video showed a man park a Cherokee with no license plates far away from the door, away from other vehicles, and walk inside the store with a backpack that appeared to be full.

Deputies said he was in the bathroom for about two minutes before he left with what appeared to be an empty backpack. He walked quickly back to his car.

Detectives circulated a photo of that person, described only as a male, and said he was seen driving away in a beige or gold-colored 2000-2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo with no license plates.

Anyone with information on the case was urged to call the sheriff's Special Victims Bureau tip line at (877) 710-5273 or email detectives at specialvictimsbureau@lasd.org.

Tipsters can also call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
