31-Year-Old Killed in Torrance Motorcycle Crash Mourned

A motorcyclist who was killed in a crash with a car in Torrance was identified as a Torrance resident Wednesday.

The crash occurred on Saturday about 9:35 a.m. on Sepulveda Boulevard near Kent Avenue, the Torrance Police Department reported.

Matthew Izzo, 31, died at a hospital, according to the Los Angeles County coroner's office.

"The lone driver of a 2016 Ford Fusion was exiting south from the service road of the 4000 block of Sepulveda Boulevard across from the intersection of Sepulveda Boulevard and Kent Avenue,'' a police statement said.

"The Ford Fusion made a left turn, crossing the path of a motorcycle traveling west on Sepulveda Boulevard, subsequently causing the motorcyclist to collide into the vehicle,'' police said.

The 21-year-old Torrance woman driving the car was treated at the scene for minor injuries. Her name was not released.

"Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in this collision,'' police said.

Rizzo's Pizza, a South Bay eatery, posted a heartfelt statement to its Facebook page mourning the man who had worked there ever since he was a teenager.

There was also a planned sunset vigil, Friday, May 3, at 6:45 p.m. at Kent Avenue and Sepulveda Boulevard.
