1 Injured After Train Collides With Big Rig

The wreck injured at least one person, according to county fire officials.

A big rig and a freight train carrying chocolate-milk mix collided in the City of Industry Tuessday evening, snarling freeway and surface-street traffic for miles during the rush-hour commute, officials said.

The wreck happened about 6:20 p.m. at Nogales Street near the Pomona (60) Freeway in the City of Industry near the border with Walnut, according to Supervisor Bernard Peters with Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Westbound lanes of the 60 Freeway were shut down for more than an hour late Tuesday, Peters said. Nogales Street and Gale Avenue are closed for the investigation. The Nogales Street off-ramp is also shuttered.

The driver of the truck was transported to the hospital in unknown condition, Peters said. Two people traveling in the freight train were not harmed in the crash, he said.

The wreck sparked a fire involving the first segment of the train, part of the semi-truck and grass surrounding the tracks, Peters said. A palm tree near a transformer also caught fire.
