Trayce Thompson Hits Game-Winning Walk-Off Homer as Dodgers Beat Rockies 4-3 in Julio Urias' Dodger Stadium Debut

LOS ANGELES – He's getting the hang of this.

Trayce Thompson hit his second game-winning, walk-off home run of the season and the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Colorado Rockies, 4-3, on Tuesday night in Julio Urias' Dodger Stadium debut.

Thompson hit a 97 MPH fastball on-a-line over the left field wall off Colorado reliever Carlos Estevez with the game tied at 3-3 with two outs in the bottom of the ninth.

"He has a great fastball, so for me, I can never look for a breaking ball and then try and hit his fastball," Thompson said of the at-bat. "So for me, I'm trying to hit off the fastball. I've been late these past two games, so I figured they'd throw me a fastball in that situation."

It was Thompson's and the Dodgers' second walk-off victory of the season, as baseball's version of the "Splash Brother," also hit a walk-off home run against the New York Mets on May 10th.

"I think this one was a little more exciting," Thompson said of the walk-offs. "The last time I knew I hit it pretty well, this time, I didn't know if it was going to get out. They were both equally as fun."

It was an emotional night for the boys in blue as nearly 41,000 fans came out to watch the Dodger Stadium debut of the 19-year-old pitching wunderkind known simply as "The Teenager."

Urias ran into trouble to start the game, but he struck out Rockies' rookie Trevor Story swinging to end the first inning.

"I felt confident because it was my third start," Urias said through a translator. "My fastball, my curveball and my slider were working well early in the game."

Everything came up roses for the Dodgers in the bottom half of the first as Justin Turner hit a three-run home run into the left field pavilion to give Los Angeles an early 3-0 lead.

Urias was steadfast in his resolve, allowing just one run on three hits with a career-high seven strikeouts. It was by far the best of his three career games, but his pitch count reached a career-high 86 pitches and he was forced to exit the game after just four innings—unable to go the minimum of five—required to record a win.

"Every starter wants to go out and get a win," Urias said of his short start. "I trust the team and what they are doing."

After two scoreless innings of relief by the Dodgers bullpen, Joe Blanton ran into trouble in the top of the seventh.

Daniel Descalso led off with a pinch-hit, solo shot to right field, and a throwing error by Corey Seager three batters later, allowed Ryan Raburn to advance to third where he scored on the next pitch—an RBI single by Carlos Gonzalez—that tied the game at 3-3.

Kenley Jansen (2-1) picked up the win with a scoreless ninth inning as the Dodgers struck out 15 total batters, their second highest total of the season.

Players of the Game:

Trayce Thompson: Game-winning, walk-off home run.
Justin Turner: Three-run home run.
Daniel Descalso: Solo home run.

Three Takeaways:

1. Teenage Dream: 19-year-old pitcher Julio Urias completed his dream journey from Sinaloa, Mexico to the mound at Dodger Stadium when he got the ball on Tuesday against the Rockies. Urias lasted just four innings, but struck out seven batters, the first teenager in Dodgers history to strike out at least sven since Don Drysdale punched out nine on April 23, 1956.

2. Walk This Way: The Dodgers have two walk-off victories this season, and both of them come courtesy of Los Angeles' outfielder Trayce Thompson. Thompson hit his second career walk-off home run, and second of the season (May 10 vs NYM) when he blasted a home run over the left field wall with two outs in the bottom of the ninth.

3. Chasing Giants: With the Dodgers win and the San Francisco Giants 5-3 loss to the Boston Red Sox, the Dodger moved to 3.0 games behind their rivals for first place in the National League West.
