Cars, Trees Burn in Early Morning North Hollywood Fires

Firefighters responded to at least two car fires early Thursday in a North Hollywood neighborhood.

At least five cars were charred by the fires, which also ignited trees. Video showed flames climbing the trees in front of a home in the 5900 block of Capenter Avenue.

"Obviously it's shocking," said neighbor Jordan Rippe. "I was running in the street naked because I could see the entire front yard on fire. I didn't know if the house was, thankfully it's not."

At least one other car fire was reported on Beck Avenue, about five blocks east.

It was not immediately clear whether the fires are related. Details about how they started were not immediately available.

Los Angeles police said one person was being questioned in the case and arson investigators were canvassing the area in search for surveillance video and witnesses.

Firefighters extinguished the fires, and there were no reports of damage to homes.
