Two Killed, Two Hospitalized in Perris House Fire

The cause of the fire was under investigation.

Two people died in a house fire in Perris Saturday morning, but an adult and child escaped and were hospitalized.

Crews responded at 2:15 a.m. to the 1400 block of Portrait Road and reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the second floor of the home and victims trapped inside, according to Jody Hagemann of the Riverside County Fire Department.

Firefighters located two victims who died inside the home and one adult and one child were taken to a hospital for treatment of moderate injuries, Hagemann said.

Knockdown of the fire was declared at 2:50 a.m.

The department initially said that three people had died in the fire, but later said there were only two confirmed fatalities.

The Red Cross was assisting the adult and child. The ages and genders of the victims was not disclosed.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
