Ventura County Councilman Faces DUI Charges

Steven Sojka has served on the Simi Valley City Council since 1998

A longtime Simi Valley councilman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, authorities said.

Steven Sojka, 49, was arrested in the early hours of March 12 by police in El Segundo, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department records.

Sojka's bail was set at $5,000 and he was released about eight hours after his arrest, records show.

Sojka's lawyer, George Bird, said that the councilman's conduct was not related to his work as an elected official. Bird declined to comment on the allegations because he has not yet received police reports.

Soijka is charged with a misdemeanor. He is due to appear in court June 17.

Sojka has served on the Simi Valley City Council since 1998.
