Ventura County Fair: Money-Saving Highlights

Kids' Day at the ocean-close spectacular is on Friday, Aug. 4.

MAYBE YOUR MEALS... are already on our mind. Maybe you're planning on how many fried candy bars you plan on devouring, and ice cream cones, and turkey legs, and roasted corn on the cobs, and buckets of popcorn, too. Perhaps your whole day at the upcoming Ventura County Fair, which glitters and glows from Wednesday, Aug. 2 through Sunday, Aug. 13, is built around what offbeat bites you can find, but, even as you plan, you know this: You'll need a budget for all of that once-a-year snackery. And, too, if you want to zip around on a few rides, that'll take some bucks, so knowing that there are a few Special Admission Days at the annual Ventura party can be a real mind-easer. In fact, once you know that you and your crew are getting in for a little less on a particular day, or not spending too many bucks to make merry on the midway, then you can plan on that extra turkey leg or lemonade.

KIDS' DAY, always a popular fair event, is on Friday, Aug. 4. "Children ages 12 and under will be admitted free all day," and if you have a slightly older young person in your group? Note that guests "13 and over will be admitted with a $9 child admission." Military Appreciation Day arrives a few days later, on Thursday, Aug. 10, and if you have a "current, valid i.d." you'll enter and not need to pay admission to do so. Dear carnival lovers, also keep in mind that a quartet of Carnival Wristband Days, which saves riders money as long as they get their rides in before 7 in the evening, are on the schedule. For all of the great savings, fundraising to-dos, and the days you'll want to be there, eye the full rundown, as well as what concerts, rodeo events, and other happenings will be flowering at the ocean-iest county fair around.
