Dad Allegedly Attacks Son With Sword for Not Doing Chores: Police

Tired of his "lazy" son not performing his chores, a Ventura father allegedly attacked the teen with a four-foot-long sword, according to police.

Antonio Gutierrez, 43, was booked into Ventura County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, according to Ventura police. His son, 18-year-old, John Gutierrez suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries to his hand.

Authorities allege that on Sunday about 12:30 p.m., Antonio Gutierrez confronted his son "about being lazy and not doing chores around the house," according to a statement from police.

The argument escalated, and the father allegedly armed himself with the sword, said police.

"Antonio confronted John with the sword and attempted to push John with the sword. John tried to defend himself by using his hands to ward off the sword," according to police.

The teen suffered lacerations and needed medical attention.

Antonio Gutierrez was later taken into custody without incident at his home, located in the 2500 block of Zuni Court in Ventura.
