Lt. John Corina, a well known supervisor at the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau, died on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2019 after a brief illness.

A well known supervisor at the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau who led dozens of high-profile murder investigations died Thursday after a brief illness.

Lt. John Corina, who served with the Department for more than 30 years, died around 5:30 p.m., according to colleagues.

He had planned to retire this year, they said. Corina was in charge of one of several squads of detectives at the Homicide Bureau, and in recent years managed the re-investigation of the 1981 death of actress Natalie Wood and the murder of Whittier Police Officer Keith Boyer.

As Corina's condition worsened in recent days he was visited by dozens of deputies, detectives, and friends.

    Funeral arrangements were pending.
