Warrant Search Leads To Evacuations in Long Beach

A warrant search Friday at a Long Beach home turned up a suspicious item, prompting evacuations and a sheriff's bomb squad response, but was later found to be no threat.

Officers served the warrant -- related to an arson investigation -- about 1:20 p.m. at a home in the 1400 block of Cherry Avenue, according to Long Beach Police Department Public Information Officer Shaunna Dandoy.

Officers evacuated surrounding homes and businesses and the bomb squad was summoned, she said.

Around 6 p.m., Dandoy announced that the bomb squad had determined the item was non-explosive and the evacuations were ended and surrounding streets reopened.
