Brentwood Residents “Crazy” Over Another Water Main Break

The pipe, which is believed to be an 8-inch main installed in 1933, broke near the intersection of Vicente Boulevard and Montana Avenue

Streets were flooded after a water main broke in Brentwood early Tuesday and caused a road to buckle, requiring repairs that might last into the evening.

The pipe, which is believed to be an 8-inch main installed in 1933, broke near the intersection of Vicente Boulevard and Montana Avenue around 3 a.m., officials said. About 25 feet from the break, water bubbled up from below the surface of the damaged road.

"Every day they're aging, every day we're replacing them," said Kirk Broyard of the LADWP. "We do have an aggressive replacement program, and we replace more pipe than we have breaks."

Firefighters asked LADWP crews come to turn off the gusher.

Water service is expected to be restored Tuesday afternoon, and road repairs are expected to be finished by Tuesday evening.

"Water finds the path of least resistance," Broyard said." So the water's going to go up and find every little crack and crevice it can crawl through and it's going to surface where it can."

Residents were unhappy they have yet again been hit by a leak.
