Storms Bring Lightning, Showers, Hail to Riverside County

A summer storm that brought heavy rain, hail and lightning to several Riverside County communities Wednesday flooded streets and damaged homes.

At least one home was hit by lightning.

"I was just looking at the lightning and it just hit the roof," resident Stephen Clubb said. "I just thought it was really loud and really freaky."

Cell phone video shared by NBC4 viewers showed palm trees on fire as lightning struck the city Riverside. One strick was so powerful, it split a tree in a half.

In Bloomington, two homes sustained water damage.  

NBC4 viewers reported dime-sized hail overnight in the Menifee area in southwestern Riverside County. Hail was also reported in Fontana.

About 1,000 customers were without power in Murrieta and Temecula, where thunderstorms arrived early Wednesday.

Flood advisories were issued for parts of Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties and were in effect until 9 p.m.

Another wave of showers is possible Thursday afternoon.
