Weekend: KCON LA Is Here

The everything-Korean-pop-culture spectacular delivers tunes, fashion, eats in DTLA.

KCON LA: Adoring all aspects of Korean pop culture, from catchy K-pop songs to photo-worthy Korean cuisine to haute fashion to everything-and-beyond? That's exactly what this huge convention so aptly covers each summer, as it will again from Aug. 10 through 12 downtown. It's landing at both Staples Center and the LA Convention Center, there's a KCON Food Street with over 20 food trucks, and a bevy of actor sightings and on-stage performances from Golden Child, IN2IT, and more. Find your tickets, your times, and the acts you need to see live right here.

Nisei Week Japanese Festival: Two weekends, a line-up of weekdays, foodie to-dos, martial arts, Sunset on the Plaza, a Rubik's Cube Open, and the Day-Lee Foods World Gyoza Eating Championship? It all happens with joy and verve during this venerable festival, which takes place at a host of locales around Little Tokyo from Aug. 10 through Aug. 19. The beloved Ondo Street Dancing is set for the final day of the festival, but don't miss Aki's Pup Party at the JACCC Plaza on Aug. 12. Eye the full line-up of events now.

Summer Block Party: August isn't exactly waning, but now that the second third of the last official month of the summer season (if not summer itself) is beginning, it is time to catch up on the sorts of sunshiny and breezy bashes we may have put off in June and July. Malibu Country Mart is throwing just such a party on Saturday, Aug. 11, complete with steel drums, a spin art station, a photo booth, the chance to get your hair braided, and other soak-in-the-beams to-dos. Be there at noon, for it all wraps at 3, and it is free, free, free.

OzCon International: Are you a Baum buff, through and through? Consider yourself a true devotee of Dorothy, sweet on the Scarecrow, a lover of the Tin Man, and a colossal fan of the Cowardly Lion? As well as all of the other amazing characters that popular these "Wizard"-ful tales? Then fly your hot air balloon for Pomona where fans will gather for three days of Oz-tastic talks, dress-up opportunities, and more. The theme of the 2018 convention? "The Tin Woodman of Oz." Read more about the Toto, we mean total to-do and start planning your cosplay look. Aug. 10 through 12

Farewell, Fairs: The Los Angeles County Fair is on the way at the end of the month, but OC Fair in Costa Mesa and the Ventura County Fair are both bidding their final adieus for 2018. Best make for one or both ahead of the final pig race, the final turn of the Ferris wheel, and before the last amp from the last concert leaves the stage. The last day for OC and Ventura? Sunday, Aug 12, yeehaw.
