KCON LA: Adoring all aspects of Korean pop culture, from catchy K-pop songs to photo-worthy Korean cuisine to haute fashion to everything-and-beyond? Nisei Week Japanese Festival: Two weekends, a line-up of weekdays, foodie to-dos, martial arts, Sunset on the Plaza, a Rubik's Cube Open, and the Day-Lee Foods World Gyoza Eating Championship? It all happens with joy and verve during this venerable festival, which takes place at a host of locales around Little Tokyo from Aug. 10 through Aug. 19. Summer Block Party: August isn't exactly waning, but now that the second third of the last official month of the summer season (if not summer itself) is beginning, it is time to catch up on the sorts of sunshiny and breezy bashes we may have put off in June and July. Malibu Country Mart is throwing just such a party on Saturday, Aug. 11, complete with steel drums, a spin art station, a photo booth, the chance to get your hair braided, and other soak-in-the-beams to-dos. Farewell, Fairs: The Los Angeles County Fair is on the way at the end of the month, but OC Fair in Costa Mesa and the Ventura County Fair are both bidding their final adieus for 2018.
