Discover "A Miracle on Santa Fe" at the Arts District tavern.

What to Know

  • Arts District
  • Special yuletide-themed sips and events through Sunday, Dec. 31
  • The bar is located where the La Grande Station, and takes its look from vintage railway cars.

Stopping by an atmospheric tavern for a cocktail during the season of revelries, tinsel, and corner-based carolers?

What would seasonal cinema be without such smile-inducing scenes? Numerous classic characters have called upon the local pub over the years, to talk Christmas, to talk life, and to maybe reflect upon the year gone by and the hope-filled days still to come.

But finding a bar that's been lavishly kitted-out to reflect this time of revelry, a venue that's rocking its most vivacious decor, drinks, and entertainment, isn't always as easy as it seems to be for people living inside the movies.

Unless, of course, you find yourself in the Arts District, on Santa Fe Avenue close to the train tracks, and you are on the lookout for "A Miracle on Santa Fe."

That's what's shimmering at Westbound, the "speakeasy-inspired craft cocktail bar" that goes 100% full yuletide during December.

What do we mean by "100% full yuletide"? Check it: The "...Westbound team pulls out all the stops to decorate every inch of the bar with lights, garland, tinsel, ornaments, stockings, and nutcrackers, in addition to a massive Christmas tree and two-foot tall menorah."

Activities and look-at-thats! include visits from Santa, live sparkly singing, and Manischewitz Punch Pong.

The cocktails themed to the season are plentiful — there are fifteen in all — and they boast names like How the Gimlet Stole Christmas and Run Run Rudolph. The Jingle Ball Nog is a symphony of eclectic ingredients that sound scrummy, including cognac, amontillado sherry, peanut butter, almond milk, pandan, cream, nougat syrup, egg, and nutmet.

"Scrummy," of course, is how one says "scrumptious" during the month of December. We don't make the rules.

The party tinsels on, shinily, right through to Sunday, Dec. 31.

Yes, shinily, a word that's as December-ish as scrummy.

Just be sure to show at Westbound with a "...quart-size bag of new travel-sized hygiene products" to donate to PATH, "a local non-profit organization dedicated to ending homelessness for individuals, families, and communities."

Westbound will treat you to a gratis and grateful cup of punch for doing so.
