After two major earthquakes rattled the Trona and Ridgecrest areas, residents are moving into the recovery process.
Ridgecrest City officials provided updates Sunday on what residents need to know as they recover:
- All roads, concrete sidewalks and gutters have been inspected and are in safe condition for residents to drive on
- The wastewater treatment facility is fully operational
- The water system is fully operational -- there is no need to boil water
- The transit system will resume normal operations on Monday
- Residents can contact quakedamage@ridgecrest.ca.gov or 760-499-5083 to report structural damage to property.
Major earthquakes such as these don’t just take a toll on material things, it also causes emotional stress. Ridgecrest Police Chief Jed McLaughlin says they will be bringing in spiritual professionals to offer help anyone in need in their process to recovery.
"To get back to a normal life it is important that we get the help that we need to move past what we've all experienced," Chief McLaughlin said.
Kern County Battalion Chief Dionisio Mitchell says they have personnel in case something else happens and that the Kern County Fire Department is ready to go.
Trona Residents have access to the following recovery services:
- Cooling Center at Trona County Library from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. beginning Tuesday, July 9 to Thursday, July 18.
- Portable showers available at Trona High School starting at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 9.
- Medical services will be on site at Trona High School from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10.
- Shuttles to the America Red Cross shelter at Kerr McGee Center. The shuttle departs daily at 10 a.m.
- Residents can report damage or specific needs to the San Bernardino County Emergency Operations Center at 909-356-3998 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
All natural gas has been restored to the Trona area, but the Trona Post Office is closed until further notice. All residents must visit the Ridgecrest Post Office to conduct all postal needs.
