Police Search for Man Who Assaulted Woman in Wheelchair

Police were searching for a man who assaulted a woman in a wheelchair in the parking lot of a Metrolink station. Hetty Chang reports for the NBC4 News at 11 p.m. on Monday, May 11, 2015. (Published Tuesday, May 12, 2015)

A wheelchair-bound woman fought off a sex predator who tried to rape her at a Metrolink station in Fontana.

She was waiting for her ride to arrive when the attacker walked up to her just after 11:30 p.m Saturday night and squeezed her breast several times, a Fontana Police Department spokesman said.

He then asked her if she wanted to have sex with him, and when she refused he pushed her towards the restrooms against her will.

The victim managed to fight her assailant off and then called police.

Her attacker is described as being in his early 20s, around 5 foot 6 inches tall, and was wearing black jeans, white shirt, black hat and black Dickies jacket.

There was no security at the station, as the last guard leaves at around 11 p.m, and the next is on duty at around 4 a.m.

Paul Belinski, who also uses a wheelchair and rides the Metrolink, said he only uses the service during the day.

"It's scary. I make sure I'm not on the last train coming back on the Metrolink. I'm usually here before it gets dark," Belinksi said. "He'd do it again (so) hopefully they find him."

The attack happened near payphones and bathrooms with the only surveillance cameras being several yards away from where the attack happened. Investigators are hoping they can get more information on the assailant from footage.

Anyone with any information can call police anonymously on 909-356-TIPS.
