A woman suspected of involvement in a neighbor dispute Saturday refused to get out of a red pickup truck in a Whittier intersection for five hours despite efforts by sheriff's crisis negotiators and SWAT team to end it sooner, authorities said.
Deputies were initially called at 3:50 p.m. to the 10400 block of Greenbush Avenue in unincorporated Whittier, where "a female neighbor threatened another neighbor with a large object and possibly threw the large object at the neighbor," Deputy Charles Moore of the Sheriff's Information Bureau said.
The suspect left the scene, Moore said, in a vehicle shown in a red pickup truck which deputies stopped in the intersection of Putnam Street and Santa Fe Springs Road in the city of Whittier.
The woman was refusing to get out of the vehicle so a crisis negotiator and sheriff's SWAT team were called to the scene. The woman was eventually taken into custody.
The standoff ended at approximately 9:30 p.m. after police used what appeared to be tear gas to finally convince the woman to surrender.
