Woman Arrested in Roommate's Killing at Mental Health Home

Officials initially arrived to the care facility expecting to deal with a medical emergency.

A 49-year-old woman has been arrested in the killing of her roommate at a mental health care home after police say she confessed to the crime.

Firefighters arrived to Chapman Board & Care at 10811 Chapman Ave. just after 11 a.m. Friday on a call of a woman having a heart attack, officials said.

When police arrived, they found the woman dead with cuts to her neck and face, said Garden Grove Police Department Lt. Ed Leiva.

She was identified as Hoa Sui. Her roommate, Lucie Wardell, confessed to killing her, police said.

Police didn't have a motive.

Chapman Board & Care is an adult mental health facility for men and women and has 49 beds, according to its website.

Police said they could not comment on any medical issues with either the victim or the suspect due to privacy concerns.

The cause of Sui's death will be released once an autopsy has been conducted.

Wardell is being held at the Orange County Jail, police said.
