Woman Killed in Attack on Long Beach Sidewalk

Authorities on Wednesday were still searching for an attacker after a woman was found dead on a Long Beach sidewalk one night earlier.

Long Beach police received a call reporting a battery around 11:20 p.m. in the 5500 block of Long Beach Boulevard, officials said.

First responders performed CPR on the unresponsive woman until an ambulance arrived and took her to a hospital, where she died.

The woman was about 25 years old and was fatally stabbed in the upper torso, said Marlene Arrona with the Long Beach Police Department.

A witness said she saw the woman, described as homeless, with a man and possibly heard someone being hit.

"It was terrible, it was brutal. It was wrong," the witness said. "It shouldn't have happened, and it happened so fast, like within the blink of an eye."

"How could someone be so malicious and cold?" the witness added.

A man was seen fleeing the scene, but no arrests had been made as of Wednesday morning.
