Woman Dies in Apartment Fire in Belmont Shore

A woman died and her husband was hospitalized following an apartment fire in the Belmont Shore neighborhood of Long Beach, authorities said Tuesday.

Firefighters responded at about 11:30 p.m. Monday to an apartment complex on 38th Place near East Ocean Boulevard and reported heavy fire with a woman trapped, according to a statement from the Long Beach Fire Department.

The woman was pulled out of the home, but died of her injuries, the statement said. Her husband was hospitalized with moderate injuries.

The woman was reported to be in her 60s. The age of her husband was not disclosed.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
