Woman Fatally Struck by Metro Train in South Pasadena

A woman was struck and killed by a Gold Line train in South Pasadena, causing a delay on Metro light rail service Sunday.

The crash was at 7:31 a.m. at Pasadena Avenue at Monterey Road, said Metro spokeswoman Kim Upton.

The Metro spokeswoman said it was not clear if the woman was struck accidentally or had intentionally walked on the tracks.

The South Pasadena Police Department was conducting an investigation into the death, according to a South Pasadena Police Department dispatcher.

The Coroner's Office was notified of the death about 8 a.m., said Investigator Anthony Lopez of the coroner's office.

Service in both directions was stopped, as Metro officials readied a "bus bridge" between the Highland Park and South Pasadena stations. Dispatchers also used single-track operation, Upton said.

By noon, regular train operations were back on track, Uption said.
