Daughter Confesses Killing Woman Found Dead in Lakewood Apartment

Neighbors described the victim as a nice woman who lived by herself

Authorities on Wednesday night announced the arrest of Angie Diamond, the daughter of a Lakewood woman who was found dead inside her Lakewood apartment one night earlier.

Margaret Mae Rion, 57, was discovered by a relative who was checking on her about 6:40 p.m. Tuesday in the 4100 block of Maybank Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Diamond told authorities that she murdered her mother following a verbal dispute. A hammer and knife, the weapons used in the attack, were recovered at the Rion's residence, officials said.

Rion suffered injuries to her upper body, but her cause of death was not released, officials said.

Neighbors described Rion as a nice woman who lived by herself.

"She seemed to be a very nice person," neighbor Sharon Caleb said. "I would see her go to work in the morning. Most of the time, we'd leave at the same time. Very nice, quiet person."

"About a year ago, her daughter had a boyfriend here, both of them had problems," neighbor Blaine said.

Diamond was booked for murder Wednesday. Her bail is set at $1 million.

NBC4's Samia Khan, Adrian Arambulo and Lolita Lopez contributed to this report.

Clarification: An earlier verson of this article erroneously stated the woman may have had problems with her boyfriend.
