A woman gave birth to an 11-pound, 6-ounce baby girl in a car on the side of the 91 Freeway in Anaheim on Sunday with the help of her husband.
The couple and their three children were on their way to see the children's grandmother about 3 a.m. when the expecting mom had some of the telling signs that the baby might be on her way.
"All of sudden I get this horrible pain that I had felt before with the other ones," said Sandra Vilchez. "I told my husband, 'She's coming now,' and I yelled because her head was coming out."
A 911 operator helped the father, Bolivar Vilchez, deliver the baby.
"I was terrified," said the father. "Needless to say, I saw my baby she's blue, I didn't know anything. I mean, 18 years in the Marines Corps, you get all this training, but you're not trained to deliver babies on the side of the 91, especially your own."
Paramedics were called to the freeway near Kraemer Boulevard, but the baby had already arrived.
Paramedics took the mother and her newborn to Kaiser Permanente Anaheim Medical Center to be checked out. Mother and baby were resting comfortably at the hospital.
The couple's other children are ages 6, 4 and 3.
