Woman Killed While Running Across 5 Freeway After Crash Identified

It was unclear why Campbell left her vehicle and ran onto the freeway.

A woman involved in a crash on the southbound 5 Freeway struck and killed as she tried to run across the northbound lanes of the road was identified Sunday by the Orange County coroner's office.

The crash was reported about 9:10 p.m. Monday, near Euclid Street, the California Highway Patrol said.

Brieanne Campbell, 20, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the CHP and the coroner's office. It was unclear why Campbell left her vehicle and ran onto the freeway.

All lanes of the southbound 5 Freeway were shut down for nearly 90 minutes before they reopened about 10:40 p.m., the CHP said.

On the northbound side, all lanes were closed about 9:35 p.m. The carpool and No. 1 lane were reopened about 10:40 p.m, but all other lanes remained temporarily closed.

The crash was being investigated by the CHP.
