Woman Shot Dead, Man Critically Wounded at Riverside Elks Lodge

A man connected to the shooting was later arrested after a hit-and-run accident.

A woman was fatally wounded and a man is in critical condition following a shooting at an Elks Lodge in Riverside, where a motorist from a subsequent hit-and-run crash is in custody in connection with the shooting, a police detective said Sunday.

Authorities received several calls a little before 7:10 p.m. Saturday regarding a fight and possible shooting at the Elks Lodge, 6166 Brockton Ave., said Riverside police detective Brett Bennett.

"Officers arrived and contacted a large group of subjects who had been using the lodge for a private function, while celebrating a family event," Bennett said.

While at that location, police were told a woman and a man from the private function had arrived at the Riverside Community Hospital, where the woman died from her gunshot wounds and the man was listed in critical condition, he said.

Within minutes of the original shooting call, Bennett said, authorities received multiple calls about a hit-and-run crash at Jurupa Avenue and Fremont Street. Officers detained a man and determined he was a suspect in connection with the shooting attack at the Elks Lodge, Bennett said.

"This investigation is ongoing and there are no other details available at this time," he said.

The Riverside Police Department asked anyone with any information regarding the shooting to call them at (951) 353-7213.
