Yasiel Puig Placed on 15-Day DL, Scott Van Slyke Activated

Los Angeles Dodgers' outfielder Yasiel Puig was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Friday and Scott Van Slyke was activated.

LOS ANGELES – It was a do-si-do by the Dodgers.

The Los Angeles Dodgers swapped outfielders on Friday when they placed right-fielder Yasiel Puig on the disabled list and activated outfielder and first baseman Scott Van Slyke.

To some, Puig's injury and placement on the DL was surprising since he seemed day-to-day after reporting tightness in his left hamstring on Tuesday at Wrigley Field in Chicago.

After starting on Monday, the Cuban outfielder missed the team's last three games, but still was able to pinch-hit in the last two. Before he was placed on the DL, he tested out his hamstring on the field at Dodger Stadium before Friday's game with the Atlanta Braves.

Meanwhile, Van Slyke makes his first appearance with the team since spring training after he opened the season the disabled list with a lower back injury.

After nearly two months away from the game, Van Slyke began a rehab assignment with Sinle-A Rancho Cucamonga and then Triple-A Oklahoma City. The power-hitter went 7-for-31 with a home run, a double and three walks in eight total rehab appearances.

Puig's hamstring is not a new issue for the controversial Dodgers star. He made two trips to the disabled list in 2015 for both hamstrings and it appears to still be a lingering issue. Currently, Puig is batting .237 with five home runs and 20 RBI in 53 games this season.
