A man died after collapsing at Zuma Beach in Malibu on Monday afternoon, fire officials said.

The incident, originally reported by authorities as a drowning, took place about 3 p.m. near Tower 1 at 30000 Pacific Coast Highway, the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.
The man, who was in his 60s, was sitting near the water when he collapsed after a medical emergency, officials said. Rescuers performed CPR, but could not revive him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The nature of the emergency was unclear.
