Peace activists were taken into custody in a planned act of civil disobedience Friday at a rally marking 10 years since the start of military operations in Afghanistan.
The activists were among about 100 marchers in downtown LA. Some stood in the middle of Los Angeles Street and blocked traffic.
Actor Mike Farrell was among the protesters. He said he was disappointed that President Barack Obama has continued the war, which began after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
The protesters called for an end to the war and a reallocation of funds to education, health care and jobs.
The protest started Friday morning at La Placita Church and ended at the Federal Building. Authorities were scheduled to reopen Los Angeles Street at about noon, but protesters blocked the street and were taken into custody in a pre-arranged act of civil disobedience.
