Rescuers Use Bare Hands and Shovels to Save a Horse Buried Up to Its Belly in Mud

Foxy was trapped in a sinkhole over the weekend in the Temecula area

It took three hours, but determined volunteers and firefighters rescued a horse that was stuck in mud Saturday in Temecula.

Volunteers with Sale Ranch Animal Sanctuary and members of the CAL FIRE Riverside County Fire Department scraped away with their bare hands and shovels to help Foxy, who was buried up to her belly. The horse apparently fell into a sinkhole on the side of a road.

Foxy, whose owner comforted her during the rescue, suffered minor injuries.
