Police were searching for a hit-and-run driver who ran a red light, hit two vehicles, crashed into a group of pedestrians Monday morning and killed one person in Koreatown.
The collision was reported at the intersection of Beverly Boulevard and Normandie Avenue, according to Katherine Main of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
A white Ford F150 pickup truck ran a red light and and landed on the sidewalk after hitting a gray sedan and a black BMW. One person was killed and several others were injured.
"This could happen to anybody," said Sgt. Gregory Hoyte, of the Los Angeles Police Department. "These people were just headed to work."
Fire officials said at least two other pedestrians were critically injured in the chain-reaction crash. Benita Correa said the two injured victim are likely her neighbors.
"Every morning they come to take the bus here," Correa said. "They're nice people. They have families."
Earlier reports indicated that the driver of the gray sedan was injured in the crash. Police later said she was not taken to a hospital and was at the scene of the crash.

Aerial footage showed several fire trucks at the scene.
The driver of the truck fled the area and was last seen near Beverly Boulevard and Mariposa Avenue, officials said. The other drivers remained at the scene.
He was described as a Hispanic man between 35 and 40 years old, about 5 feet 6 inches tall, with short dark hair. He was wearing a red shirt and black pants, police said.
