Authorities Search for Missing Hiker in Angeles National Forest

Authorities were searching a 30-mile radius around Warm Springs Mountain in the Angeles National Forest today for a Lake Hughes man who was reported overdue from a hiking trip.

Donald Lee, 60, set out for a planned hike in the area on Friday, and was supposed to have returned on Sunday, said Sgt. Darren Harris of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station.

"He had a cell phone conversation with his girlfriend on Sunday indicating that he had injured his knee, but was able to lighten his pack and continue hiking," Harris said. "That was the last contact with him."

The woman reported him missing late last night, and the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Search and Rescue Team set out to find him, using ground crews and a helicopter team.

Additional resources were brought in from around the county, including personnel from the Palmdale and the Crescenta Valley sheriff's stations and the Montrose Search and Rescue Team.

Anyone knowing Lee's whereabouts was urged to call the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station, (661) 255-1121; or call 911.
