Bellflower Man in Custody After Barricading Himself in Home Following Stabbing

Brandon St. Mark, 31, allegedly stabbed his 78-year-old neighbor

A 31-year-old man suspected of stabbing his neighbor was taken into custody after barricading himself inside his Bellflower residence Saturday morning, a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputy said.

A special weapons team was called around 1:30 a.m. to the 17900 block of Redwood Avenue (map) after the man reportedly knocked on his neighbor's door, entered the residence and stabbed him numerous times, Deputy Peter Gomez said.

"The suspect went back to his own residence and has since refused to exit,'' Gomez said, adding the victim was taken to a hospital with non-life- threatening injuries.

The suspect was identified as Brandon St. Mark, who was booked on charges of attempted murder and was being held on $500,000 bail.

The motive was unknown.

"St. Mark ... knocked on his neighbor's door and when the victim opened the door suspect St. Mark stabbed the 78 year-old male victim with a knife numerous times before returning back to his own residence," a sheriff's department press release said.

St. Mark was taken into custody after 8 a.m., a department spokeswoman said.
